Travis has a neat personality and will amaze you with the things he remembers about others. He is caring, likes to help the adults in his life and enjoys pleasing others. He is also very creative; he can seemingly make something out of almost nothing. Hands on activities like Legos and puzzles are favorites with Travis. He also likes the outdoors, participating in sports and watching movies. When Travis first meets new people, he is shy and keeps to himself, but he does warm up to others once he gets to know them. Prospective adoptive families should know that Travis will be able to form an attachment to them, but they will need to give him the time he needs to be able to trust them.
Currently, Travis is doing well at school where he is in a BD classroom. He wants to be able to stay in close contact with his biological brother who is being placed separately. Travis says he would like an adoptive family that would enjoy playing board games and card games with him and he hopes his new family will have other children.
The ideal family for Travis will be experienced in parenting and knowledgeable about behavioral issues and Asperger’s syndrome. This could be a couple or a strong single male. Travis should be the only child in the family or he must be the youngest as he will need 24-hour supervision. The family should be very structured, able to commit fully to Travis and be understanding of his mental health and social skill needs. The adoptive family needs to reside in Iowa so Travis can maintain a relationship with his brother. |
